KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 16): United U-Li Corp Bhd's independent and non-executive chairman, Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Ismail, who was also a former deputy inspector-general of police (IGP), has passed away, aged 90.

United U-Li, which manufactures and distributes steel cable support systems, announced this in a Bursa Malaysia filing this evening.

Abdul Rahman was first appointed to the company's board 17 years ago, on Feb 21, 2002. Prior to that, Abdul Rahman served the Royal Malaysian Police Force since 1950, holding various posts until his retirement in 1985 as the deputy IGP.

During his time with the police, Abdul Rahman represented Malaysia in various Interpol activities and drug enforcement committees, conferences as well as seminars at the international and regional levels.

From 1979 to 1982, he was an executive committee member of Interpol. He was subsequently elected as vice-president of Interpol, a post he held from 1984 to 1985.
