KUALA LUMPUR: Palm oil producer United Plantations Bhd's revenue and net profit fell 23.9% and 18.1% respectively in its second quarter (2Q) ended June 30, 2009 to RM187.8 million and RM65 million, compared to a year earlier.

For the six-month period, net profit fell 18.6% year-on-year to RM120.2 million on the back of a 16.5% decline in revenue to RM395.1 million.

The group attributed the decline to lower production of crude palm oil (CPO) and palm kernel, lower selling prices for both as well as depressed refinery margins due to the global recession which affected demand.

No dividends were declared for the period reported.
