KUALA LUMPUR (May 8): Malaysian markets are expected to take cue today from Malaysia's impending 14th General Election (GE14) as investors contend with uncertainties in the nation's political backdrop.

As investors look ahead at GE14's polling day tomorrow (May 9, 2018), uncertainties in the nation's political backdrop may prompt them to think about continuity in the country's policies.

Such sentiment is expected to influence market dynamics as they anticipate GE14's outcome and its impact on various industries and companies.

At Bursa Malaysia yesterday, the FBM KLCI closed 13.63 points or 0.7% lower at 1,828.2 points amid cautious sentiment ahead of GE14. The small-cap index dropped 183.26 points or 1.26% to settle at 14,392.40 points.

In currency markets, the ringgit was traded at 3.9447 against the US dollar. Over the last one year, the exchange rate was between 3.8533 and 4.3525.
