<div class=newsTextDataWrapInner><p>KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 2): Uchi Technologies Bhd (UTB) said its wholly-owned subsidiary Uchi Optoelectronic (M) Sdn Bhd has been granted pioneer status by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA).</p></div>

<div class=newsTextDataWrapInner><p>In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, Uchi Tech said the pioneer status was for the "design, development and manufacturing of real-time centralised energy measurement and control system, high precision hot fluid temperature control system, and ultra-low temperature and mass sensing control system for bio-chem equipments".</p></div>

<div class=newsTextDataWrapInner><p>It said the letter was received on Sept 21, 2017 and that the pioneer status is valid for five years from the production date, which will be fixed by the authorities later.</p></div><div class=inPageAd id=div-gpt-ad-inpage></div>

<div class=newsTextDataWrapInner><p>Among the terms and conditions of the granted status is that the unit's expenses for annual research and development (R&amp;D) activities shall be at least 1% of its total annual gross sales by the third year of production.</p></div>

<div class=newsTextDataWrapInner><p>Uchi shares inched up one sen or 0.39% to close at RM2.60 today, giving it a market capitalisation of RM1.14 billion.<br />
