KUALA LUMPUR (July 23): Mobile service provider U Mobile Sdn Bhd expects a 30% growth for its subscriber base this year.

With the launching of its new prepaid starter pack, the Power prepaid pack, U Mobile chief marketing officer Jasmine Lee said the company is eyeing a 30% growth in its subscriber base this year.

U Mobile currently has near to 5 million subscribers, said Lee.

"Out of the 5 million, 4 million subscribers are prepaid subscribers," she told reporters after launching the Power prepaid pack today.

Commenting on the price competition between telcos, Lee said U Mobile will continue to provide value-for-money packages to consumers.

She said the margin compression is less for U Mobile as the company is more data-centric compared to other telcos players.

U Mobile's notable stakeholders include tycoon Tan Sri Vincent Tan.
