PUTRAJAYA (May 4): Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is leading the opposition coalition Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the 14th General Election (GE14), is targeting to reach out to 10 million voters via live broadcasting his Perdana Speech in Langkawi through his Facebook account the day before the May 9 polling date.

At a press conference today, Mahathir said on May 8 (Tuesday), there will be campaign talks by PH in all 222 parliamentary seats nationwide until 10pm, when all talks will pause simultaneously and his final address from Langkawi will be broadcast before the election.

"I believe the announcement we made today will be publicised and the government will think of ways to stop us from reaching the people. That has been the way of BN (Barisan Nasional) government, even my picture cannot be shown. This event will make full use of the social media, and we want to reach 10 million voters, obviously this will be frightening to the BN government, so they will do everything possible to put a stop (to this programme)," Mahathir said.

"We always have problem in getting site for our rally; the government knows the turnout for our rally is huge, sometimes up to 100,000 crowd in Penang, but of course Penang is under our rule. In other places, they always give us the smallest site possible, but people still turn up to see what we have to say. We see mounting interest and presence of our rallies: in Kuantan there was about 40,000 people, if that is not an indication of support, then I don't know what is. What we worry is the cheating by (Prime Minister Datuk Seri) Najib (Razak)," he said.

Mahathir, who will turn 93 years old come July 10, said although he is still having his usual cough, he is still able to render a one hour speech, indicating  health is not an obstacle for him to contest in GE14.

"I am still coughing, but last night, I managed to deliver an hour's speech without any problem, perhaps you can try and ask any 93-year-old, see if he or she is still able to deliver an hour's speech," he told reporters, when asked if his age is too high for him to take on the Prime Minister's role, should PH win Putrajaya.

"I am now 92 years old, and will turn 93 by July 10, so please come to my birthday party," he said.
