KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 2): Tropicana Corp Bhd has redesignated Dion Tan, son of its founder and largest shareholder Tan Sri Datuk Tan Chee Sing who has a 30.45% stake in the company, as managing director, effective today.

Dion, 27, was previously an executive director (ED) of the group. His older brothers also sit on board the company. Eldest brother Datuk Dickson Tan Yong Long is the deputy group chief executive officer (CEO), while Dillon Tan Yong Chin is an ED. 

Meanwhile, Tropicana said it's CEO Datuk Yau Kok Seng is retiring on Nov 30, due to health reasons. Yau, 58, has held the position since January 2013, the property developer said. He has now a 0.32% stake in the company. 

Separately, Datuk Lim Thean Shiang was appointed Tropicana’s independent and non-executive director.

Lim, 46, also sits on board of several companies within the Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd (FGV) group of companies and is an advisor to FGV’s investment committee, the group said.

He also holds directorships in Daya Materials Bhd, MSM Malaysia Holdings Bhd, Pontian United Plantations Bhd and the Maritime Institute of Malaysia.

Shares in Tropicana closed unchanged at 94 sen apiece today, leaving it with a market capitalisation of RM1.38 billion.
