KUALA LUMPUR (July 23): AirAsia Group Bhd group chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said today he expects the ringgit to strengthen to about 3.8000 against the US dollar soon, because the Malaysian economy is in a good position.

Fernandes said via Twitter the Malaysian economy needs to focus on industries that can generate income quickly, besides technology and ideas that can bring big growth.

“My prediction (is) ringgit will strengthen to about 3.80 soon. Economy in good position. Focusing on growth, not austerity. Growth will handle debt.

"Malaysia must focus on increasing efficiency and productivity to grow jobs and be a driving force in Asean," he said.

In currency markets, the ringgit was traded at 4.0630 against the US dollar at 3:43pm today. Over the last one year, the exchange rate was between 3.8533 and 4.2990.
