KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 27): Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) will be launching a new product that caters for nomadic customers such as young bachelors or parents, said chief executive officer Datuk Seri Mohammed Shazalli Ramly.

At the group’s financial results briefing today, Shazalli said the new product will also give TM extended reach to rural customers.

“This product would probably give us another dimension on how we reach the rural side of Malaysia, making available high speed broadband (there), while waiting for the high speed broadband (to roll out),” he said.

“It is a massive innovation on our end.

“I brought this product to Lenggong, Perak, and there is no fibre (cable infrastructure) there, but I can stream Unifi TV without any buffering.

“We are going to bring that product to market by July or August this year,” Shazalli said.

He said the new device could complement TM’s current service offerings to cover every market segment in Malaysia.

“The household wallet and individual wallet is different. If you are a young bachelor or parent, chances are, you will not commit to a fixed service, you would opt for mobile while you are renting, and this new product can serve that segment,” he added.

TM’s share price closed three sen or 0.5% higher at RM6.03 today, giving it a market capitalisation of RM22.66 billion.
