(July 13): Thai police have confirmed that former PetroSaudi executive Xavier Andre Justo had a “secret meeting” with several opposition leaders and owner of a pro-opposition media, Umno mouthpiece, Utusan Malaysia reported today.

The report said Thai police received the confirmation from its counterpart in Singapore.

Quoting sources, it said the meeting was held at the Fullerton Hotel, Singapore, although no mention was made of the individuals involved and when it took place.

"Thai police have received confirmation on the existence of a secret meeting between Justo and a few individuals from the opposition and the owner of a media group.

"In fact, Thai police have also admitted that they were all involved in the crime of stealing, forging and modifying PetroSaudi documents," the sources were quoted as saying.

Thai police on Saturday have tightened security around Justo to prevent any attempt to persuade him from withholding cooperation from the Thai authorities.

"He is an important suspect. So I've directed that security around the prisoner be improved," Royal Thai police spokesman police Lt-Gen Prawuth Thavornsiri said in a Bernama report.

Justo, 49, was arrested in Koh Samui, Surathani on June 22 for alleged extortion, involving 2.5 million Swiss francs (RM10 million).

Numerous computers, hard drives and other evidence were seized during the arrest, which is to facilitate investigations into the leak of emails between PetroSaudi and 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) for the purpose of blackmail. Justo has denied these allegations. – The Malaysian Insider
