KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 16): Primary Industries Minister Teresa Kok said the government will review Malaysia’s crude palm oil (CPO) export duty as part of measures to ensure the country's CPO price competitiveness in world markets.

Kok however said there are no ironclad commitments for any CPO export duty revision at this juncture. She was speaking to reporters after officiating at the biennial Oils and Fats International Congress here today.

Reporters had earlier asked Kok about the 500,000 tonnes of palm oil which China may consider buying from Malaysia.

Kok said: “They (China) are still importing [palm oil from Malaysia currently], but it is just that our price is a bit higher than Indonesia, which is why they take more from Indonesia."

"I think it requires long-term study and discussion (to make Malaysian CPO prices comparable to that of Indonesia),” she said.

According to news reports, quoting the Malaysian Palm Oil Board’s statement, Malaysia’s CPO export duty for September and October 2018 was set at 0%, following the cut from 4.5% in August.
