KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 18): Tenaga Nasional Bhd's overseas investments will not be passive and focused solely on financial gains, as the Malaysian state-owned utility hopes to be a strategic investor in its power assets abroad.

Tenaga president and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Azman Mohd said Tenaga executives will hold seats in these overseas companies’ management to reflect Tenaga's position as a strategic investor.

“We are sending our people overseas, not only for investments per se, but really to learn how they operate and maintain their plants. We are actually developing our talents [to be compatible] for a global talent powerhouse, so Malaysia and the other countries can benefit from our investments.

“All of our investments will have to be a strategic fit to the company. Some of the guidelines will be a bit conservative for us, because we know that our investor population base is expecting a more stable dividend payout. It is more of a prudent view, than anything else,” Azman said.

Azman was speaking to reporters at Tenaga's annual general meeting here today.
