KUALA LUMPUR (May 8): Budget airline AirAsia Group Bhd said today its flight QZ220 to Penang from Jakarta, Indonesia today was cancelled due to a technical reason.

In a brief statement today, AirAsia said, "All affected passengers were accommodated on another flight and are expected to arrive in Penang later today."

A notification carrying AirAsia's company logo on flight QZ220's cancellation has gone viral ahead of polling day tomorrow, prompting some netizens to speculate on alternative explanations.

In the notification, the airline has offered its passengers various options such as changing their flight to another time within 14 calendar days, a full refund or credit account of the value of booking which is to be redeemed within 90 calendar days.

Meanwhile, AirAsia told theedgemarkets.com that apart from QZ220, other AirAsia flights will remain as scheduled. "We will make further notifications to customers if there are any changes," it added.

At 3.56pm, AirAsia shares were up one sen or 0.27% at RM3.71, with 5.05 million shares done, bringing a market capitalisation of RM12.33 billion.
