KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 28): Pos Malaysia Bhd has appointed Syed Md Najib Syed Md Noor as its group chief executive officer (CEO) effective Oct 1, replacing Al-Ishsal Ishak who is leaving the group to become chairman of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission on the same date.

Syed Najib, 58, is currently the chairman of Altel Communications Sdn Bhd and MYTV Broadcasting Sdn Bhd.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, Pos Malaysia said prior to his positions at Altel and MYTV, Syed Najib was with Celcom Axiata Bhd from 2005 to 2017, holding a wide range of experience in several portfolios including as senior vice president of Celcom's international business and director of regulatory, legal and corporate affairs.

Syed Najib was the country head for Malaysia and Indonesia of REACH, a telecommunications joint venture between Telstra of Australia and Hong Kong Telecoms. He was also the managing director of Mimos Internet Services and started his career in Esso Production Malaysia Inc.

"With his vast expertise in areas where it is required the most, such as customer experience, regulatory and international business, the board of directors of Pos Malaysia is highly confident that Syed Najib is the most suitable talent to lead the organisation and look forward for him to spearhead Pos Malaysia towards greater heights," said the group.

On Wednesday, Pos Malaysia announced the resignation of Al-Ishsal after only eight months on the job.

Prior to Al-Ishsal, Pos Malaysia's previous CEO Datuk Mohd Shukrie Salleh stepped down in December last year after serving in the post for barely two years.

Pos Malaysia shares closed down four sen or 1.1% at RM3.60 today, with 111,400 shares done, giving the company a market capitalisation of RM2.82 billion.
