SINGAPORE (June 19): An SIA Engineering JV has been selected as designated MRO facility in Singapore for one of two engines that power the Airbus A320neo aircraft.

Eagle Services Asia (ESA), a joint venture between SIAEC and Pratt & Whitney, a division of United Technologies Corp, has been selected as a local MRO facility for PW1100G-JM PurePower Geared Turbofan (GTF) engines.

ESA will invest US$85 million (S$118 million) to equip the facility with advanced capabilities such as an environment control system and an engine flow line system, as well as an upgrade to its test cell to ready itself to perform MRO services on the GTF engines.

Wong Yue Jeen, Senior Vice President, Partnership Management and Business Development of SIAEC, said: “The investment in the GTF engine capability is another milestone in our partnership with Pratt & Whitney and will position Eagle Services Asia strongly to tap on growth opportunities arising from the large orders of A320neo aircraft powered by GTF engines in the region.”

Modifications to the facility are expected to start in 2018, and GTF engine service to commence in 2019.

Shares of SIA Engineering closed 2 Singaporean cents higher at S$4.20 today.
