KUALA LUMPUR : Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd has partnered with e-commerce company Lazada Malaysia to launch an online store to sell motor oil products.

“Today (yesterday), we are proud to be the first oil and gas company in Malaysia to have an official presence on a leading e-commerce platform such as Lazada Malaysia,” said Shell Lubricants executive director for Southeast Asia & Oceania Troy Chapman.

“This initiative would help expand our market coverage and reach significantly and complement our extensive brick and mortar network in this country, which has been built over the past 125 years,” he said at the launch.

Lazada Malaysia chief executive officer Hans-Peter Ressel said customers from throughout the country can now order the motor oil products on the Lazada Malaysia store.

There will also be engine oil service packages available for customers at selected authorised workshops in the Klang Valley and Johor.

“[The service packages] is a pilot project but once we [take some time] to iron out any issues we may have missed, then we hope to launch the package services nationwide in the near future,” said Ressel.

Chapman said Shell does face issues with regard to the sale of counterfeit or non-genuine motor oil on the market.

“I am sure we are not the only [company] that faces this kind of issue, [but] we do monitor it closely and take action that is within the law, and work with government officials when we find out about parties that are not selling genuine products to ensure that we are protecting consumers in Malaysia,” he said.

On the Lazada side, Ressel said the marketplace has strict quality control assessment practices for the merchants and products being sold on the marketplace to deter the sale of counterfeit products.

“We have strict processes not only when uploading products [on the website] but products go through a thorough quality control cycle so that [any issues found] will be flagged, “ he said.

“There is also a manual quality check with the merchant to verify that this is the real merchant selling the real product,” he added.

The Lazada group currently has a presence in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines.
