JOHOR BARU (May 10): Pakatan Harapan representatives in Johor must make sure that they do their best to serve the rakyat, the coalition’s vice president Salahuddin Ayub reminded its leaders after Pakatan won the State Assembly election decisively in the 14th General Election.

If Pakatan State Assemblymen did not fulfil their duties as expected by the people, they would be voted out in the next general election, Salahuddin, who is the Pulai MP, told reporters early today.

“There is a lesson to be learnt here from our victory in Johor, that if the elected representatives do not execute their duties and honour the mandate given by the people, it would not be a surprise if the people of Johor vote us out,” he said.

“Insyallah, we will form a government that uses all our efforts to give the best to the people of Johor,” he said. Salahuddin also thanked the people of Johor who have given Pakatan the mandate to form a new State government.

He promised that the new Pakatan Federal Government will strengthen Press freedom by allowing media organisations to be independent from government interference.

He said he wants Malaysia to be like other developed countries in the world where the media can openly exercise their rights to criticise the government of the day.

Pakatan won 36 out of the 56 State seats in Johor in GE14, and 18 out of the 26 Parliamentary seats, beating the incumbent Barisan Nasional which is left with 19 State and 8 Parliamentary seats.

Later this morning, PH Johor chairman and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who is the MP for Pagoh and State assemblyman for the Gambir state seat, will meet Sultan Ibrahim Ismail of Johor to get his consent to form the next State government.

He will present three names from among the elected State assemblymen to be chosen by the Sultan as the next Menteri Besar. The candidates will be determined by the Pakatan presidential council and its Johor leaders.
