KUALA LUMPUR: Scomi Group Bhd has appointed Sammy Tse Kwok Fai as executive director (ED) of the group effective immediately.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia yesterday, Scomi said Tse, 55, is from Hong Kong and a fellow member of The Institute of Directors, the UK and the Hong Kong Institute of Directors.

According to Scomi, Tse started his career in IFS (HK) Ltd in 1990 before joining the Hong Kong Telecom Group (now known as PCCW Ltd) in 1992 where he held various positions, culminating in the position as general manager of fixed mobile integration.

He then joined Hutchinson E-commerce Ltd, part of the Hutchinson Whampoa Group, in 1998 as its chief executive officer (CEO).

In 2004, he became chief operating officer of entities within the South China Group before leaving in 2007 to take up the positions as ED and CEO of Hong Kong-listed EPI Holdings Ltd. He resigned from these positions in 2016, but continues to provide consultancy services to this company.

Tse’s appointment follows the resignation of former Sime Darby Bhd group CEO Tan Sri Nik Mohamed Nik Yaacob, 69, as independent and non-executive director of Scomi on July 19.

Nik Mohamed was said to have cited his desire to devote more time to other responsibilities  and personal commitments as reasons for stepping down.
