KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 23): Datuk Samsudin Abu Hassan has been redesignated to the role of independent, non-executive chairman of Silver Ridge Holdings Bhd, from his present role of independent director.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, Silver Ridge said Samsudin’s appointment takes effect from today.

Silver Ridge provides telecommunications systems' architecture and design, next generation network, and telecommunications-related software solutions. It first welcomed Samsudin to its board in May last year as an independent director and a member of its audit committee.

The chairman role at Silver Ridge was previously vacated on Aug 28, following resignation of Datuk Md Alwi Che Ahmad to pursue other commitments. Md Alwi is currently the state assemblyman for Kok Lanas in Kelantan and is also the Kelantan Umno information chief.

On the same day, then-executive director Zakhirah @ Zamariah Mohd Zabidi and non-executive director Datuk Saiful Bahar Mohd Arshad also resigned from Silver Ridge’s board, citing similar reasons. Among others, Saiful Bahar is an active UMNO member and was advisor to the Minister in Prime Minister's Department on innovation between Jan 2015 and June 2016, Silver Ridge said in the Aug 28 filing.

Samsudin, 63, is a seasoned businessman and corporate personality, having been involved in corporate finance, investment banking, especially mergers and acquisitions, stock and equity markets in various industries and investments in Malaysia and overseas over the past 30 years.

Among others, he was a one-time executive chairman of property developer Landmarks Bhd and was also linked to Aokam Perdana Bhd, Mitrajaya Bhd, Bolton Properties Bhd, Kejora Harta Bhd and Peremba Bhd — a company linked to former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin. He was also reported then to be a protégé of Daim.

Silver Ridge shares closed unchanged at 25.5 sen today, for a market capitalisation of RM31 million.
