SUBANG (Nov 17): RUAG Aviation Malaysia Sdn Bhd today officially launched its maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility in Subang, positioning it as the aviation systems and components provider's components services hub for aviation customers and original equipment manufacturers in Asia.

The facility, which was completed in December 2011, will provide MRO services for aircraft components used in both the civil and military aviation industries, said its general manager David Jones during a media briefing today.

RUAG Aviation Malaysia is a joint venture (JV) company between Swiss-based RUAG Group and its Malaysian partner Prima Elite Technology Sdn Bhd. The partners hold 65% and 35% stakes respectively in the JV.

"By establishing RUAG Aviation Malaysia, the group will be able to use the facility as a headstart before expanding to other markets within the Southeast Asian region," said Jones, adding that it plans to expand into Brunei, Indonesia and Thailand by next year.

At the international level, RUAG Group caters to clients like the Swiss Air Force, Airbus Group, Pilatus, Boeing and General Electronic.

It is worth noting that the civil aviation industry makes up a huge chunk of the group's business as a whole, whereby 55% of its products and services are catered towards the civil market whereas the remaining 45% are for the military market.
