KUALA LUMPUR: Tycoon Robert Kuok will return to Malaysia this week to attend a government advisory council meeting, several media reported yesterday.

In an exclusive interview with Nanyang Siang Pau, Team of Eminent Persons head Tun Daim Zainuddin confirmed that Kuok will return to Malaysia this week to attend a government advisory council meeting.

Daim said he had spoken to Hong Kong-based Kuok over the telephone.

Meanwhile, Malaysiakini also reported that council’s spokesperson A Kadir Jasin said Kuok will be here this week to meet with other members although no specific date has been set for his arrival.

Daim also said that Kuok’s nominee PPB Group Bhd chairman Tan Sri Oh Siew Nam will attend council meetings in the billionaire’s absence.

Kuok is a member of the council set up by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to advise the new government on economic and financial matters during the transition of power.

Other members include former Bank Negara Malaysia governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz, former president and CEO of Petronas Tan Sri Hassan Marican, and economist Professor Dr Jomo Kwame Sundaram.
