KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 1): RHB Research Institute Sdn Bhd said Malaysia's 2017 corporate earnings are expected to recover from a year earlier on positive macro trends.
The Edge Malaysia business and investment weekly, in its latest September 4 - 10 issue, obtained RHB Malaysian research head Alexander Chia's opinion on local corporate earnings following the recent conclusion of the April-June quarter financial reporting season.
The April-June quarter financial reporting season starts in July, although most Bursa Malaysia-listed companies announce their earnings in August.
Chia told The Edge via email that the April-June quarter corporate earnings looked "somewhat subdued and unexciting."
"Nonetheless, we are still likely to see earnings recovery year on year in 2017, albeit [there will be] a less-robust rebound,” he said.
Chia said most sectors reported earnings, which were within expectations. The list included automotive, plantations, technology and property. According to him, only two sectors — non-banking financial institutions and logistics had beaten expectations.
