KUALA LUMPUR: Reports have been lodged over purported leaks in the Tamil and Maths papers for the UPSR examinations, days after the authorities confirmed that the Science and English tests papers had been compromised.

Some 500,000 students sat for the national primary six examinations. The English and Science examinations will now be held again with fresh test papers on Sept 30.

Kuala Lumpur city police chief Datuk Tajuddin Tajuddin Md Isa said Examinations Syndicate officers lodged the reports about the leak of the UPSR Tamil and Mathematics papers.

“Yes, we received the report and will be investigating it,” said Tajuddin.

He said the reports will be investigated by the same team which is investigating the leak of the Science and English papers.

Police have arrested 14 people in connection with the leaked Science and English test papers.

It is learnt that police last week inspected the vaults where the UPSR papers were kept as part of their investigation into the case. Only a few schools across the country have such vaults, and at least four are in Kuala Lumpur.

Following the earlier leaks of the English and Science papers, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Education Minister II Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh both issued public apologies for the leaks and postponement of the exams.

Bernama reported on Sept 12 that Muhyiddin had announced the suspension of Examinations Syndicate Director Dr Na’imah Ishak and deputy director (operations) Dr Wan Ilias Wan Salleh with immediate effect. But this has been denied by the ministry’s secretary-general Tan Sri Dr Madinah Mohamad.

Madinah told Bernama yesterday that Na’imah and Wan Ilias were not suspended but had been re-assigned other duties unrelated to the Examinations Syndicate to enable an independent committee to carry out its investigations.

Police have so far have recorded statements from 30 individuals to facilitate investigations into the leaked exam papers.

Police said eight officers from the Malaysian Examinations Syndicate, 19 teachers, an officer from the Education Ministry, an engineer and a journalist had given their statements. A total of 14 people have been arrested in Kuala Lumpur, Perak, Kedah and Negeri Sembilan since last week. Of these, 11 have been released on bail while three are still in police custody.
