KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 1): Ranhill Holdings Bhd plans to sell a 60% stake in wholly-owned Ranhill Water (Hong Kong) Ltd to Singapore-listed SIIC Environment Holdings Ltd for RMB273.9 million (RM167 million). The move will allow both companies to jointly pursue waste water projects in China.

Ranhill told Bursa Malaysia today the all-cash deal was indicated in a term sheet, which preceded the sale and purchase agreement.

"The company (Ranhill) views the proposed divestment not only as a divestment of asset but also a formation of a strategic partnership with SIIC and its subsidiaries, and is essential for and complements the continuous growth of Ranhill's waste water business in China, particularly in the industrial waste water treatment sector.

"We believe such strategic partnership will facilitate the procurement of waste water concessions in China by providing broader access to potential clients and target markets," Ranhill said.

At Bursa Malaysia, Ranhill's share trade was suspended between 9am and 10am today in conjunction with the announcement. At 10:33am, the stock was unchanged at 96 sen for a market value of RM852.78 million.
