PUTRAJAYA (Sept 18): Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai has called on the Railway Assets Corporation (RAC) to maximise the usage of railway lines in the country by allowing more multiple railway operators to tap into it.

"All the railway lines are RAC’s assets. We have only managed to use 40% of the capacity, we got another 60% capacity. As of now the rate of utilisation is not at optimum capacity yet.

"We already have the lines and we have to maximise the usage of the railway lines. There is a lot of capacity left so we encourage multi operators to fully utilise the railway lines," he said.

The minister stressed the need for RAC to work together with Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd and also with the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) to come out with comprehensive strategy as well as maximise the usage of the railway lines capacity.

Liow was speaking to reporters after launching the  Railway Assets Intelligence System (RAILS).

RAILS is an intellectual apps for the purpose of management and maintenance assets, financial management and property, advisory management, legislative and monitoring assets through online.

With the presence of RAILS, member of the public keen to do business with RAC can submit rental and lease applications online.
