KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 9): The Malaysian government intends to pass a corporate liability law in March next year to eradicate corruption in the business sector, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Paul Low Seng Kuan.

"In terms of bribery, most givers are from the business sector," Low said in a press conference during the anti- corruption forum today.

He pointed out that the amount of bribery could indicate if the company is involved.

"Most of the time, employees will be persecuted when found guilty but the act will pluck the loophole to make the company liable [for the bribery as well]."

He added, "This could be a game changer [in the corporate sector], as they will take the corruption issues seriously."

On political financing, Malaysian Anti- Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy chief commissioner Datuk Haji Mustafar bin Ali said the issue has to be more transparent.

"We need to make sure that the funding goes to the political party and not to individuals."

In conjunction with international anti-corruption day, the anti-corruption forum is organised by MACC with aims to raise awareness in the society to curb corruption.
