KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 18): DRB-Hicom Bhd's wholly-owned subsidiary Proton Holdings Bhd plans to issue up to 250 million new redeemable convertible cumulative preference shares (RCCPS) to Govco Holdings Bhd, in exchange for the remaining RM250 million financial support from the Malaysian Government.

In a statement to Bursa Malaysia today, DRB-Hicom said national car manufacturer Proton proposed to issue the RCCPS at RM1 each to Govco.
The Government via Minister of Finance Inc owns Govco.

DRB-Hicom said issuance of the 250 million new RCCPS would be in addition to the initial issuance of up to 1.25 billion RCCPS at RM1 each in June this year, to Govco.

"The initial subscription RCCPS and new subscription RCCPS represent the financial support from the Government to PHB (Proton), totalling RM1,500,000,000," DRB-Hicom said.

DRB-Hicom said Proton had written a letter to the Finance Ministry last Tuesday, to convey Proton's decision on the 250 million new RCCPS issuance.

Today, DRB-Hicom shares fell one sen or 0.8% at 3:50 p.m. to RM1.24, for a market value of RM2.39 billion. The stock saw 2.3 million shares traded.
