KUALA LUMPUR (April 4): The RM250 billion Prihatin Rakyat Economic Stimulus Package announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is said to be one of the world’s largest federal aids to counter the impact of the Covid-19 crisis.

A total of RM100 billion was allocated to support businesses, including the small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

However, in the past week, business owners are far from happy.

It is said that the Prihatin package, though rakyat-centric, is missing the mark, as businesses, especially the SMEs, have been overlooked and neglected.

Is that really the case?

Notably, the SMEs are not only the largest tax contributors to the country, but also the largest employers of the nation.

According to the Department of Statistics, Malaysia, the SMEs accounted for two-thirds of employment and contributed over one-third of the national GDP.

Business owners are now crying for help, hoping that the government could step in to save businesses, in order to save jobs and save the economy.

But what exactly do they want?
