He said the people should be proud that the unification of the states of the peninsula with Sabah and Sarawak had created a unique, harmonious and fast-developing Malaysia. 
 
“Every development and excellence that we now enjoy must be continued in the spirit of 1Malaysia. Only harmony and tolerance can serve as the backbone and pillar to maintain Malaysia as a strong, credible and respected nation,” he said in a statement in conjunction with the 51st Malaysia Day. 
 
The people must also remain united to face elements out to undermine the nation’s unity, Bernama reported him as saying.
