KUALA LUMPUR (July 20): Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) will use the ‘Bersatu’ name and slogan beginning today, said Bersatu chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The Prime Minister said a meeting of the party Supreme Leadership Council agreed on the use of Bersatu which could not be used until now due to the objection of the Registrar of Societies (RoS).

“Now, we are in power and we can make the change,” he said after chairing a meeting of the council at the party headquarters at Menara Yayasan Selangor.

Bersatu is one of the four component parties of Pakatan Harapan, the other three being PKR, DAP and Amanah.

Also at the press conference, Dr Mahathir said the Bersatu leadership took disciplinary action, including suspension of membership, against several party members found to have sabotaged the party and tarnished its image during the 14th General Election in May.

“We will not reveal the identities or number. Some of them had even held press conferences to paint a bad picture of the situation in the party. They were suspended, not expelled,” he said.
