KUALA LUMPUR (May 18): Police have seized 72 pieces of luggage containing cash in various currencies and a "rather big amount" of jewellery and 284 boxes containing numerous designer handbags including those from the Hermes Birkin range when they raided a condo in Bukit Bintang tonight.

Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) chief, Datuk Seri Amar Singh Ishar Singh told Astro Awani at 2.15am that the items seized were linked to investigations into the 1MDB scandal.

"Since yesterday until today, the CCID has conducted simultaneous raids on six premises.

"They include the Prime Minister's Office, the former prime minister's official residence in Taman Duta, and four other properties belonging to him.

"At this condominium building alone, we conducted checks on three units," Amar Singh told Astro Awani at the entrance of the Pavilion Residences here.

"The number of jewellery is rather big. We cannot reveal yet the details and value of all the seized items, the amount is substantial, we need to inspect each item carefully first," said Amar Singh.

When asked to give an estimated amount, he said, "This (seizure) is only from one of six premises. There are more items seized from the other premises."

Astro Awani quoted him as confirming that there was no one present in the condo units when the raid was carried out. He said the raid was carried out after a search warrant had been granted for the premises, which belong to a "Tan Sri" whom he declined to name.

Police loaded the seized items onto five trucks which transported them to an undisclosed location.

Bernama reported him as saying that police also seized 1MDB-related documents from the Prime Minister's Office.
