(June 5): Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was unhappy with the police's decision to cancel a dialogue session on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), Malaysiakini reported.

Najib was supposed to attend the event but backed out on the advice of the IGP who said the decision was made on the grounds of "public order and national harmony".

"PM was not too happy with my decision but for safety and security reasons, as well as to preserve harmony, I had to make my stand and therefore cancelled the event," Khalid was quoted as saying.

"I hope every peace-loving Malaysian understands," he added.

Khalid tweeted this morning that for reasons of public order, the police had ordered the event, titled “Nothing to Hide”, be cancelled.

The conference was organised by NGO SukaGuam. Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had also turned up.

The event was postponed indefinitely and Dr Mahathir instead took the stage before the police stopped him from addressing more than 1,000 people who turned up. – The Malaysian Insider
