SEPANG (Feb 14): Kuala Lumpur International Airport's (KLIA) planned KL Air Traffic Control Centre (KL ATCC) will enable the airport to increase the number of flights from 78 to 108 an hour with the maximum usage of three runways simultaneously.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the KL ATCC will be operational at the end of 2019. He said this here today when he officiated at the KL ATCC ground-breaking ceremony.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai told reporters after the ceremony the KL ATCC will enable KLIA to provide more space for aircraft and airlines at the airport, hence more time slots to stay competitive.

"This will enable us to help the tourism industry as well," Liow said.

He said the KL ATCC would also be a new landmark for KLIA, in line with the government's plan to make KLIA a regional aviation hub.
