KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 29): Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir arrived at Parliament at about 11:20am today, for an emergency motion to debate the fiasco involving the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple.

Dr Mahathir is scheduled to table the motion in Dewan Rakyat at 12pm today.

It is understood that this category of motion would usually take an hour to debate, however it is the Dewan Rakyat Speaker's discretion to allocate the amount of time for members of Parliament to debate it.

Most senior Cabinet members were present at Parliament here today as well, including Home Affairs Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

Selangor police chief Datuk Mazlan Mansor arrived about 15 minutes ahead of Dr Mahathir, and was seen in an open meeting with Muhyiddin.

The motion came amidst concern of potential escalation of racial tension following the recent riot and dispute involving the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in USJ 25, Putra Heights.

The scuffle, involving a fight between the Indian temple management committee and a group of thugs allegedly hired by the land developer's lawyer, has resulted in 30 arrests so far, while a member of the emergency response staff was severely injured and currently relying on life support, at Institut Jantung Negara. The racial tension arose as majority of the thugs were said to be ethnic Malays.
