KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 27): The cost behind abolishing four tolls under PLUS Malaysia Bhd's concessionaires would be an extended tenure to the company's other toll collection points, according to Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.

At the Parliament's lobby after the Budget 2018 presentation by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today, Johari told pressmen that the government is not making any cash compensation to the toll concessionaires with the toll collection tenure being extended.

"We will restructure some of the existing tolls that we have not abolished; maybe we extend some of their tenure, to compensate back these tolls that we are going to abolish.

"The government will not pay anything, we just extend the tenure in the existing toll (under Plus) that they are still operating," he added.

Earlier, Najib said the government will scrap toll collection for vehicles crossing Batu Tiga and Sungai Rasau in Selangor from Jan 1, 2018 onwards.

The Bukit Kayu Hitam toll in Kedah, as well as that of the Eastern Dispersal Link (EDL) in Johor will also be abolished beginning 2018.
