KUALA LUMPUR: Plantation stocks led the KL Composite Index higher in early trade on April 24, as the 100-stock index eyed the 980 level.

At 9.32am, the KLCI was up 8.96 points to 987.60. Turnover was 332.88 million shares valued at RM203.07 million.

KL Kepong rose 20 sen to RM11.50, Kulim 15 sen to RM5.70 and heavyweight Sime 10 sen to RM6.55.

Other gainers were CHHB, surging 19 sen to 80 sen with 12,100 shares done in the absence of fresh corporate news.

On April 23, the third month contracts for crude palm oil futures rallied jumoed RM105 to RM2,580 per tonne, the highest since September last year.
