KUALA LUMPUR: Compact carmaker Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) estimates its market share for February 2018 to surpass 41% with 17,100 vehicles sold, against an estimated 41,100-unit total industry volume (TIV).

Perodua Sales Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Dr Zahari Husin said the optimism stems from a strong support of Perodua’s latest offering, as well as healthy demand for its other models.

“Making up the 17,100 units are 6,500 Myvis, 5,000 Axias, 3,700 Bezzas and 1,900 Alzas,” he said in a statement yesterday.

On a year-on-year basis, Perodua’s sales performance improved 13.1% to 34,800 units in the first two months of 2018 compared with 30,800 vehicles sold in the same period last year.

Perodua targets to sell 209,000 units this year, up 2% from the 204,900 units sold in 2017.

Zahari said to date, Perodua has delivered 28,000 Myvis —nearly half of the 60,000 orders collected so far. The carmaker has fulfilled all new Myvi orders made in 2017.
