KUALA LUMPUR (Mar 3): PBA Holdings Bhd (PBA) has named Chong Meng Choon, previously its planning and development manager, as its new group chief operating officer. The appointment came into effect on March 1 this year.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, PBA said Chong, 56, has been serving its wholly-owned unit Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang Sdn Bhd, since 1984.

"During his years of service with the group, he held various positions in the group and his last position was Planning and Development Manager, before being promoted to Group Chief Operating Officer," said PBA.

Chong, a registered professional engineer with the Board of Engineers, Malaysia, holds a Civil Engineering degree from Monash University. He also has a Diploma in Management from the Malaysian Institute of Management.

Between 1996 and 2002, he was actively involved with The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (Northern Branch), of which he was the vice chairman, the company said.

PBA is engaged in water supply and is the licensed water operator for Penang. It also has a 26% stake in Pinang Water Ltd, which supplies treated water to Yichun City in China.

PBA's counter closed unchanged today at RM1.32, giving it a market capitalisation of RM436.93 million.
