KUALA LUMPUR (May 4): The Pakatan Harapan candidate for the Bentong parliamentary seat, Wong Tack, is being investigated by police under the Anti-Fake News Act.

Wong's spokesperson said the police recorded a statement from the environmentalist at the Bentong police station this afternoon. Wong spent about an hour with the cops.

The spokesperson said the investigation followed a report lodged by Federal Territory MCA Youth in relation to a live video on Wong's Facebook on nomination day for the 14th general election, on April 28.

On that day, there was a commotion outside the nomination centre in Bentong over the eligibility of the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Pahang state assembly seat of Ketari, Datuk Lau Hoi Keong, to contest in the May 9 polls.

The commotion took place when Pakatan candidates challenged Lau to present his identity card (IC) to verify publicly that it contains a Pahang address as required in order to contest a state seat.

However, Lau declined to present his IC despite repeated requests by Wong. Returning officer Datuk Azhar Arshad, however, proceeded to declared Lau as a candidate for the Ketari seat.

Subsequently there was an uproar among Pakatan supporters with some of them wrongly assuming that it was the BN candidate for the Bentong parliamentary seat, Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, that was involved, and demanded that he present his IC.

Wong's spokesperson today reiterated that during the entire nomination process, Wong had not accused Liow of having any issue with his IC.

Liow, who is the MCA president, has been the member of parliament for Bentong since 1999.
