(Oct 21): Pakatan Harapan lawmakers have condemned the denial of bail for Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) activist Khalid Ismath who has been slapped with 14 charges under the Sedition Act and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Act (MCMC).

Khalid has been detained for the past 14 days at the Ayer Molek Prison in Johor, after being slapped with three charges under the Sedition Act and 11 others under the MCMC Act.

Shah Alam MP, Khalid Samad said the denial of bail for Khalid, who is married, is a "human rights violation".

"We demand that he be given the right to have bail immediately," he told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.

Khalid said the accused cannot be deemed a "flight risk" because he has a family here.

Meanwhile, Sepang MP Hanipa Maidin urged the attorney-general to revoke the order not to grant bail for Khalid Ismath.

"Even a non-bailable offence is sometimes granted bail. This is a bailable offence but he has been denied bail," he said.

"We have had several MPs who have been charged with sedition, but all are allowed bail. Why is he not allowed bail?" he asked.
