KUALA LUMPUR (May 19): Pacific & Orient Insurance Co Bhd (POI), the country’s first pay-less-when-you-drive-less motor insurance provider, has launched an interactive online game titled "Shortcut by PrOmilej", aimed at sending the message of "drive less, pay less" to consumers.

In a statement today, POI said it wants to create awareness of its usage-based motor insurance, PrOmilej, which is available directly to consumers through its website or app.

The general insurance company said in breaking the mould of a one-size-fits-all motor insurance product, PrOmilej offers flexible private car insurance at a premium based on expected annual mileage.

It said with options to top up, the innovative plan currently consists of three options — less than 5,000km, 10,000km and 15,000km — and corresponding savings of as high as 40% on comprehensive car insurance premiums.

POI chief executive officer (CEO) Noor Muzir Mohamed Kassim said apart from the well-publicised financial impact of the Covid-19 pandemic in general, another effect of the virus outbreak on Malaysians is the implementation of the movement control order (MCO).

He said this resulted in a reduction in vehicle usage because of movement restrictions and the new norms of working from home and commuting less.

“Through our PrOmilej product, we are offering consumers an opportunity to choose how much they drive in a year and only pay for that.

“However, the product is also flexible as it allows customers to ‘top up’ the mileage for additional premiums if they have underestimated how much they need,” said Muzir.

He said this "top-up" feature grants customers more control of how much they pay for their car insurance as it enables them to buy “blocks” of mileage as and when they need more.

In conjunction with the Shortcut game, together with a play-to-win campaign, Muzir said participants stand a chance to win up to RM88,000 worth of prizes, including the grand prize of a brand-new Proton X50.

The campaign runs from May 14 to July 11, and consumers can participate via www.poi2u.com.
