KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 18): Outgoing Proton Holdings Bhd chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Ahmad Fuaad Mohd Kenali has been named the new CEO of Malakoff Corp Bhd.

The appointment will take effect from Oct 1, according to Malakoff in a Bursa Malaysia filing today. Ahmad Fuaad will be leaving Proton, which he joined since April 1 last year, on Sept 30.

Ahmad Fuaad will be replacing Habib Husin, who has been Malakoff's acting CEO since June, said Malakoff.

Habib, meanwhile, will cease as acting CEO but remain as Malakoff's executive vice president of operations.

Prior to Ahmad Fuaad's stint as Proton chief, he was the chief operating officer (finance & corporate) and the chief financial officer of DRB-Hicom from Aug 2013 to March 2016.

A fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and a member of the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA), Ahmad Fuaad is a University of East Anglia, UK, graduate, with a degree in computerised accountancy.

Malakoff shares closed down two sen or 1.85% to RM1.06, giving it a market capitalisation of RM5.3 billion. Year to date, the stock has declined 22.63%.
