KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 7): Orion IXL Bhd has appointed Mohamad Shaharul Mohamad Shariff as its new chief executive officer, replacing co-founder Abdul Rani Achmed Abdullah.

Shaharul, 48, had been appointed executive director of Orion IXL on Sept 18. He is currently also the CEO of non-listed technology and business solutions provider ASAP Bhd, a post he has held since 2012.

Shaharul had previously been head of the executive chairman’s office at Chase Perdana Bhd and Sitt Tatt Bhd from 2000 to 2003, according to Orion IXL’s filing with Bursa Malaysia today. He then assumed the role of CEO at Asiankom Communication (M) Sdn Bhd from 2004 to 2012.

Meanwhile, Abdul Rani’s redesignation as executive director follows his disposal of a 6.34% stake in the company on Oct 12. He continues to hold a 3.9% stake in the company, with 285,072 shares held directly and 23.08 million shares held via Winnova Resources Sdn Bhd.

Shares in Orion IXL closed unchanged at 12.5 sen today, leaving the group with a market capitalisation of RM74.87 million.
