KUALA LUMPUR: Staff of OCBC Bank (M) Bhd recently forked out RM180,000 from their own pockets to support 195 needy children in Asia and Africa. This was done under a collaborative effort with World Vision Malaysia.

“World Vision’s Child Sponsorship Programme is a highly effective programme, which is why we decided to pool our resources to support it. We did not wish to simply offer money; this programme also allows us all to journey with each child through the updates we will receive about them,” OCBC Bank Malaysia chief executive officer (CEO) Ong Eng Bin said in a statement yesterday.

OCBC Bank has also rolled out a credit/debit card corporate social responsibility initiative in partnership with World Vision Malaysia.

“This initiative was spearheaded by Ong himself, who has himself been a child sponsor for six years. Through Child Sponsorship, communities enjoy improved access to clean water, education, nutrition, healthcare and economic development," World Vision Malaysia CEO Datuk K J Abraham said.
