(Nov 19): None of the Umno divisions have submitted any motion demanding the resignation of Datuk Seri Najib Razak ahead of the party's annual general assembly next month, party vice-president Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hussein said today.

Hishamuddin, who is in charge of motions ahead of the assembly, said there was not a single motion submitted to that effect.

"I can confirm there was no such motion," he said during a press conference at the Parliament lobby today.

There were, instead, motions by 132 of the 191 party divisions that explicitly supported Najib.

Hishamuddin, however, did not reveal if any of the motions raised questions regarding 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) and the RM2.6 billion in Najib's personal accounts.

"We have plenty of motions. You would have to come to our convention to hear these motions, which are quite micro," he said.

Umno will have a convention on November 24 as a precursor to the assembly, which will run from December 8 to December 12.

Najib is facing calls for him to resign from party veteran and former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as well as from Umno grassroots leaders following the 1MDB and RM 2.6 billion controversies.

He has so far refused to heed the calls, and instead removed deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and vice-president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal in a Cabinet reshuffle in July. – The Malaysian Insider
