(May 12): The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has denied a rumour that there will be a Cabinet reshuffle and dismissed a list on the new members being circulated on social media.

“There is no change in the government’s line of leadership,” the PMO today said on its official Twitter account @PMOMalaysia.

The list, which began spreading on Monday, claimed that six ministers were to be dropped.

They were Foreign Minister Datuk Anifah Aman, Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Hasan Malek, Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz, and Ministers in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Shahidan Kassim, Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom and Datuk Seri Idris Jala.

The list also suggested that Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan will be promoted to Information Minister while Kinabatangan MP Bung Moktar Radin will take over the Housing and Local Government Ministry.

It also said Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin will be moved to the Prime Minister’s Department while his place will be taken by Kuala Selangor MP Irmohizam Ibrahim.

Lembaga Tabung Haji chairman and Baling MP Datuk Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim will be appointed as a deputy minister in the Prime Minister's Department, the list said.

Yesterday. the Umno Supreme Council expressed renewed support for Najib and deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who had earlier criticised Najib’s leadership while on an official trip to Italy last week.

Najib said he had met personally with Muhyiddin before the meeting and had pledged to have more “heart-to-heart” discussions with the latter, to prevent anyone from tearing the party’s top leadership apart.

“The Supreme Council expressed renewed support for the president and the deputy president.

“The Supreme Council wants the president, deputy president, the council and all Umno leaders to unite as a team to face all the challenges and take positive action to strengthen Umno and Barisan Nasional’s position among the people,” said Najib.

Calls for Malaysia's sixth prime minister to resign have risen since Muslim pilgrims’ fund Tabung Haji confirmed buying land from 1Malaysia Development Bhd, the debt-ridden state investment fund.

Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said Umno and Barisan Nasional would lose the next general election if Najib did not resign. – The Malaysian Insider
