KUALA LUMPUR (July 30): The newly appointed Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman, has resigned from her post as chairman of the Chemical Company of Malaysia Bhd (CCM), on July 28.

In a filing to Bursa Malaysia today, CCM said the resignation was due to Azalina’s appointment to Najib’s newly reshuffled Cabinet.

CCM (fundamental: 0.35; valuation: 1.2) said Azalina, 51, was appointed as the non-independent and non-executive director of the company on Nov 13, 2013.

The current member of Parliament for the Pengerang constituency in Johor, Azalina was also formerly the Minister of Youth and Sports from 2004 to 2008 and the Minister of Tourism from 2008 to 2009.

She started her career as a Legal Assistant at Messrs Raja Darryl & Loh, where she worked from 1988 to 1989 and then 1991 to 1994. She then became an Associate Partner of Azalina Chan & Chia until 2001 and subsequently joined Messrs Skrine & Co for a year. In 2002, she formed a partnership with Messrs Zaid Ibrahim & Co.
