(May 18): AirAsia has announced a new route connecting its southern hub of Johor Baru with the Thai capital Bangkok. This new route will be available for booking from today.

Scheduled to commence on July 17 with four weekly flights, this is AirAsia’s eighth route into Thailand after Kuala Lumpur-Phuket, Bangkok, Chiangmai, Hat Yai, Krabi, Surat Thani and the most recent, Pattaya.

To celebrate the launch of the new route, AirAsia is offering promotional all-in-fares from RM69 one way, available for booking from today until May 24 to travel from July 17 until May 31 next year.

These promotional fares can be booked on www.airasia.com as well as AirAsia’s mobile app on iPhone and Android devices, as well as the mobile site mobile.airasia.com.

Spencer Lee, head of commercial for AirAsia Bhd said in a statement: “Johor Baru is the third largest city in Malaysia with tremendous travelling demand, and we are determined to be the airline that provides the best connectivity from the south of Peninsular Malaysia.

"Now, our guests from Johor no longer need to transit through Kuala Lumpur or even commute to Singapore like they used to in order to get to Thailand.

“Earlier, we have also announced the recommencement of direct flights from Johor Baru to Medan, Indonesia, with two flights weekly; and the introduction of the first-of-its kind ‘Self Bag-Drop’ service in Malaysia that is currently only available at Senai International Airport.

"These initiatives reaffirm our commitment in growing the Johor Baru hub with our guests’ convenience in mind, while stimulating the region’s tourism growth through our extensive flight network across the Asean region and beyond.” – The Malaysian Insider
