Kuala Lumpur: CIMB group chairman Datuk Seri Nazir Razak — also brother to caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak — said businesses are mindful of any changes that may come about this election year, in Malaysia and also in other neighbouring countries.

While Malaysia goes to polls on May 9 this year, elections are also expected to take place in some of CIMB’s other operating markets, such as Indonesia, Cambodia, and possibly Thailand early next year.

“2018 is a material election year across Asean. Elections are important events; it is not just about whether [there is] a change in government, but also [whether] the same government can bring out new leadership in key portfolios,” said Nazir at a press conference.

Nazir said elections are material events to be mindful of and that the group will operate in response to decisions of the electoral.

CIMB group operates mainly in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Singapore, besides being present in other Asean markets such as Cambodia, Laos, Brunei, Vietnam, and Myanmar. It also has businesses in China, Hong Kong, India, the UK, South Korea, Sri Lanka and the US.
