KUALA LUMPUR (April 22): North America-based manufacturers of semiconductor equipment posted US$1.38 billion in orders worldwide in March 2016 (three-month average basis) and a book-to-bill ratio of 1.15, according to the US-based Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI).

A book-to-bill of 1.15 means that US$115 worth of orders was received for every US$100 of product billed for the month.

In a statement on its website on April 21, SEMI said the three-month average of worldwide bookings in March was US$1.44 billion.

It said the bookings figure was 9.4% higher than the final February 2016 level of US$1.26 billion, and 0.9% lower than the March  2015 order level of US$1.39 billion.

SEMI said the three-month average of worldwide billings in March 2016 was US$1.20 billion.

It said the billings figure was 0.5% lower than the final February 2016 level of US$1.26 billion, and 5.3% lower than the March 2015 billings level of US$1.27 billion.

SEMI president and CEO Denny McGuirk said Order activity remains steady and is on par with both the previous quarter and one year ago.

“3D NAND and advanced logic are the key drivers for investments,” he said.
